Black and white is my favourite way of painting. It is the purest, the most direct, the sharpest. I like the resonance of fullness and emptiness, I like to keep the spaces of light, sometimes even the canvas is blank, not painted in those places. Sometimes I replace charcoal with red chalk. The canvas becomes warmer, perhaps even more luminous.
