Description

Utopia Art Sydney is committed to representing a small group of Australian artists. These include prominent members of Papunya Tula Artists, Utopia's Gloria Petyarre and non-Indigenous artists from Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. Their reputation as one of the leading Aboriginal art galleries owes much to the fact that all artists are equally represented. Since 1988, Utopia Art has been exhibiting Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal artists in a contemporary context. This has led to the emergence of Indigenous artists such as Emily Kame Kngwarreye into the Australian art mainstream. It has also served to broaden the frame of reference for many of their artists.
