Sculptor to Lyon - France
France
Born in Lyon in 1963, Xavier Veilhan is a French contemporary artist renowned for his work, which oscillates between sculpture, installation, painting and performance. A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris, he quickly established himself on the international art scene thanks to his innovative approach and his ability to transform public space.
Veilhan is particularly well known for his monumental installations, such as ‘Les Habitants’ in Lyon, and for representing France at the 2017 Venice Biennale with his ‘Studio Venezia’ project, which blended art and music in an immersive installation. His work often explores the themes of modernity, technology and human perception.
Xavier Veilhan's work is characterised by an exploration of the boundaries between art and architecture, between the virtual and the real. Using a variety of materials such as wood, metal and plastic composites, he seeks to create works that challenge the viewer with their familiar yet alien presence.
Veilhan is particularly interested in the representation of geometric forms and stylised human figures, which he reinterprets with a minimalist yet deeply expressive approach. His monumental sculptures, often integrated into public spaces, seek to engage with the architectural environment while questioning the way in which art can transform our perception of the world.
